What is plywood?
Plywood is a type of engineered wood made from thin layers of wood veneer that are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another. This cross-graining technique gives plywood its strength and stability, making it a popular choice for construction, furniture, and other applications where a strong and durable material is needed. Plywood comes in various grades and thicknesses, and can be made from a variety of wood species.
Plywood is made of thin layers of wood veneer that are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another. The veneers are typically peeled from a log using a rotary cutting process, and then dried and sorted by thickness and quality. The veneers are then glued together using a strong adhesive, such as phenol formaldehyde or urea formaldehyde, under high pressure and heat. The number of layers, or plies, used in plywood can vary depending on the desired strength and thickness of the final product. The outermost layers, or faces, of the plywood are often made of higher quality veneers to give the finished product an attractive appearance.
