Co-organized by the Investment Promotion Institute of Macao SAR (IPIM) and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), and hosted by the Secretariat of the Global Green Supply Chain Initiative for Forest Products (GGSC), the Global Legal and Sustainable Wood Summit 2024 was successfully held at MGM MACAU on September 11th and 12th, with the theme “Working Together to Build a Reliable and Efficient Global Wood Supply Chain”. The theme of the Forum was “Working Together to Build a Reliable and Efficient Global Wood Supply Chain”. This year's forum held a summit forum, four professional sub-forums and a number of side meetings and business matching, attracting the participation of 800 guests from more than 40 countries and regions. During the event, two research results and three transnational cooperation action plans were released to promote international cooperation on legal and sustainable wood supply chains.

The Global Legal and Sustainable Wood Summit (GLSTF) is a large-scale international conference for the wood industry co-hosted by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the Investment Promotion Institute of the Macao Special Administrative Region (IPIM), and organized by the Secretariat of the GGSC. The GLSTF 2024 was successfully held in Macao, China on September 11-12, 2024, with the theme of “Working Together to Build a Reliable and Efficient Global Wood Supply Chain”. This year's GLSTF included a summit forum, four specialized sub-forums, two side events and a business matching session, focusing on the in-depth integration of the whole industry chain and covering the comprehensive docking of upstream and downstream resources and markets. The Forum attracted a total of 800 guests from more than 40 countries and regions, covering international organizations, government officials from various countries as well as representatives of wood industry associations and enterprises. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, Mr. He Yicheng, the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Macao, Mr. Zheng Xincong, the Acting Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Macao, Mr. Sun Xiangyang, as well as ministerial officials from the Central African Republic, the Republic of Fiji, the Republic of the Congo and Peru. Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, Mr. Li Wei Nong, said in his speech that the “Global Legal and Sustainable Wood Summit”, as the first international forestry and timber industry conference introduced to Macao, is an important part of the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO)'s efforts to promote the establishment of legal and sustainable supply chains. Ms. Sheam Satkuru, Executive Director of the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), delivered a video message in which she called for support to build and improve the global sustainable wood supply chain at a time of challenge and uncertainty. In addition, the Global Wood Industry Index (GTI) and blockchain technology research results were released during this year's forum. the GTI platform has been fully operational, with three new pilot countries and two new industry indices, as well as training and business matching services. In addition, the Blockchain Technology-based Timber Traceability System (BTTS) has been successfully tested, and in the future, it will focus on technological upgrading and standard system construction to further promote international cooperation and innovation. The parties reached a consensus to launch the “Framework for Action on Legal and Sustainable Wood Supply Chains”, which will be implemented through the “Action Plan for the Integration of Green Finance and Green Supply Chain (GF&GS)” and the “Central Africa-China Wood Cluster and Park Collaboration Demonstration Initiative”. Through a series of demonstration actions such as the Green Finance and Green Supply Chain Integration Action Plan (GF&GS) and the Central Africa-China Wood Clusters and Parks Collaboration Demonstration Initiative, a new business ecosystem and supply chain model will be built to provide green financial incentives to companies and parks that source and procure traceable wood.

The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) is an international intergovernmental organization that promotes the protection of tropical forests and the sustainable production and trade of tropical timber. There are 76 member countries, including the United States, the European Union and other consumer countries and Brazil, Malaysia and other producer countries. China is its largest member country.
