Leader OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is a versatile and high-performance engineered wood panel designed for structural and sheathing applications in construction.

• Composition: It's manufactured using precisely cut wood strands (flakes) sourced from fast-growing, sustainable timber. These strands are oriented in specific, cross-directional layers within the panel.

• Bonding: The strands are bonded together under intense heat and pressure using synthetic, water-resistant resins (typically phenol-formaldehyde or MDI - methylene diphenyl diisocyanate). This creates a strong, durable bond.

• Structure: The key characteristic is the oriented placement of the strands. Strands in the surface layers are aligned parallel to the panel's length, maximizing strength along its main axis, while strands in the core layer run perpendicular or randomly. This cross-directional orientation gives OSB its exceptional dimensional stability, shear strength, and resistance to warping or splitting.

• Properties:

  • High Strength & Stiffness: Excellent load-bearing capacity, making it suitable for walls, roofs (roof sheathing), and floors (floor sheathing/subflooring).

  • Dimensional Stability: Resists swelling, shrinking, and warping better than some traditional plywood grades, particularly under moisture exposure during construction (though proper protection is still crucial).

  • Moisture Resistance: The water-resistant resins used (especially MDI) provide good resistance to moisture, often classified as OSB/3 (for load-bearing use in humid conditions) or OSB/4 (heavy-duty load-bearing in humid conditions).

  • Uniformity & Consistency: Engineered production results in large, consistent panels with uniform properties throughout, free from knots or voids common in natural wood.

  • Nailability & Screw Holding: Holds fasteners well.

  • Sustainability: Efficiently utilizes smaller diameter logs and wood that might not be suitable for solid lumber, promoting sustainable forest management.
